Use these links to install TWRP on your Pixel 3a xl ok. Not the test 8. U must boot the TWRP.img via fastboot then flash the TWRP installer.zip via TWRP then very important reboot recovery ok

Ok I’m having trouble with the installer.zip I’ll send u a separate link for that ok alright I found the TWRP but it’s 3.3.1use the .img file to boot TWRP via fastboot then use the installer .zip to flash via TWRP then reboot recovery ((now there is a chance it may not work on Android 11 so be ware it could make u get stuck in fastboot so make sure u know how to get your phone to boot again you may want to wait for a little while before installing TWRP just use magjsk_patched.img method for now )).

Seems the OP was trying to Root, which TWRP will not. In fact, to my knowledge, TWRP does not work on Android 11. And, despite the TWRP.me site listing 3.4.0-0 supposedly working with Android 10, I could not make it work. Error was something to the effect incorrect boot.img file. So, I updated to Android 11 this evening.
Thank you.

Ok which TWRP did u use it mite not with Android 11

We may have to wait for awhile till a offical TWRP comes out for android 11 it won’t take to long cuz Android 11 is offical now a month or 2

Android 11 compatible TWRP sure would make it easier to install and root with Magisk.

Yes it would but u can root via magjsk_patched.img it’s just as good and u learn how to use commands it’s fun:grin::grin::grin:

The How to Root Pixel 4XL on Android 11! works, substituting Pixel 3a XL information of course. But, to make it work, for me, I had to do step 5, updating channel to canary and install Manager, then proceed with select and patch. The resulting magisk_patched.img file was then correct and root was achieved.

I do not know why root check says Android 11 (Oreo)

That is awesome great job you will enjoy I’m sure

You can post pic or vid in photo section to

Slight problem. Root does not stay after 2 reboots. Have to fastboot boot magisk_patched.img again to enable root.

Lol, you are using very old root checker app the developer obviously did not update since oreo.

I found the issue. Slight syntax error. “fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img” was missing the “flash” command. So, that’s why it would be rooted first boot. Now, when I do it correctly, the error is
“writing ‘boot’…
FAILED (remote: Failed to write to partition Not Found)”

Fastboot has Android 10 & 11 issues, some commands don’t work at all, I had to revert to Android 9 for some of my GSI ROMs.

You can boot TWRP, “fastboot boot twrp.img” then flash the img there.
