how do i know if i have previously unlocked bootloader? when i power up by pressing the (VOL-) and (plug power cord in) simultaneously, i get the cyanogen recovery menu (see pic), which shows an option to “reboot to bootloader”. does that mean i already have bootloader unlocked (and don’t need to go through this process)? I’m using Oneplus One (the original! haha) my power button has failed, so the only way for me to restart is to let the battery drain to power down, and then press (VOL-) and (plug power cord in). i know, sad.
my ultimate goal is to upgrade the OS on my oneplus one. right now, it has android 5, which doesn’t work with a lot of apps. also, sad.

Yep, since it already has a custom recovery installed it means the bootloader is unlocked.
I’m looking into the power button issue for you. It seems like a lot of people have that issue with the OnePlus One. Some have fixed it by simply removing a file management app. Somehow it disables the power button. Others have said they fixed it by removing some type of round window cover on the phone. I’ll let you know if I find anything else.

oh yeah, if you see that, the bootloader is unlocked and someone has previously installed a custom ROM. Not a problem though, just means it is much easier for you to try new custom ROMs.
Btw, you can enable USB debugging then use:
adb reboot bootloader
to reboot into fastboot then you can boot to recovery easily from there.

thanks for the info! i did some more searching, and i found an app called “button savior”, which allows you to restart and shutdown using the app. but it requires root access, which i haven’t done yet, so i haven’t been able to try it out.
